LOL -- I'm working with some companies on projects that are taking even longer than that. But the thing is, Kazoo v5 is completed and has been in production for several years. It's just the open source release of it that has been delayed. Now, that's not to say that they _couldn't_ have released it sooner if things were planned/managed better. But the thing is, they run a business, and releasing the open source code is only a "side gig" thing and isn't actually a huge benefit to the business side of things (it is some, but not nearly as much as people think). Clearly the open source release isn't their "priority" or it would have already been released, but that doesn't mean it isn't an important thing on their list; and that is why this amount of time, although painful to all the persons waiting on it, isn't unreasonable.

I have been aware it has been completed, but they also mentioned waiting on the Marketplace  to be completed. Sounds like a different team working on it. I would think even less time to complete that.

In addition it's not a "side gig." They offer hosting for it, as well selling a deal with OneBill for a billing system.

He's just speculating. Most people don't understand the complexities of a large project like Kazoo, so it's very common for many to assume that multiple delays == cancellation. When in reality that isn't the case. I don't have any inside information on it, but having worked on some large projects myself before, 2600Hz/Ooma's timeline for bringing it out, although disappointing and frustrating so far, isn't a clear indication of Kazoo v5.x staying closed source.

It does not take six years to complete a project with a team. Even a single person being paid full time could have it completed.

Hi @bpbp! This is a great suggestion, excellent point, I will review this idea and likely make that adjustment in the near future. Thank you for the feedback and thoughtful suggestion!

So about that change? Been over a couple of years, and if one is not logged in, still cannot see the forum at all.

  4. The entire site is gone. It seems they are trying their best to kill off the 2600Hz / Kazoo brand. It's not a joke. All the KazooCon videos are all "unlisted" on YouTube, and that is why I referenced the site instead of all the videos shown on there.  Why else would they keep all the videos unlisted, and kill the whole site?

Or, it could be the site was compromised?

I think the lack of communication is where the frustration comes from. If they no longer plan to release v5 then thats fine, it would just be good to see some communication about it.

They  did mention version 5 would not be released until after their Market Place would be released. A year ago, they had a Talking Heads KazooCon where a demonstration of that store was given.

You can access eight video presentations from here:

Strangely, all of the videos are UNLISTED. Not sure why one would do that, especially when trying to promote business or products.

In my opinion, 2600Hz has all the rights to do what every they want with their project.
Still, it will be appreciated to be more transparent about this project. Last year (2022), they said that they estimate the V5 will be released at the beginning of 2023. a long time passed until then, so we can get some hints about their attention to the project after all the git repo was not updated for a long time.

And yet, of course, I greatly respect 2600Hz for their great project. It's  not obvious.

KazooCon is next month. Perhaps something will be announced then.

@mc_ appreciate the input. I'm personally happy to pay 2600hz, especially for apps. However, a small operation like mine tried to get a quote and it was all USA hosting for a lot considering our small customer base.

I will add, I do try to contribute from time to time, but my PR from 3 years ago is still open (and still fixes an active issue)

About the same time they stopped working on version 4
