  1. Hello all, in this edition of TWIL we'll be covering a peculiarity some of us may have encountered here or there in the course of our KAZOO experience, that being duplicate call recordings for a single call event. There is a behavior seen in which clients are noticing that multiple recordings for a single call are showing up wherever their call recordings are stored. Generally, the cause of this is the recording configuration, and can be attributed to the following two settings: Call Recording enforced for an entire account. Set for both inbound and outbound This will result in duplicate recordings because recording is being forced for both the inbound and outbound directions. Therefore, it is expected to end up with two recordings since you would get one per direction of the call. To remedy this: Set your Call Recording config at the User level instead of Account level. This can be done in the Call Recording App: Under Configuration, then Account, you can force recording settings for all Users rather than for the Account itself. You can also set this individually for each User under the Users tab. Alternatively, this can be configured in Smart PBX under the User’s settings
  2. Hi @Kronosun and welcome! Looks like you already discovered the right areas for questions like these, I saw this here: Thanks for joining us and for jumping right in, I hope you find the community resourceful and helpful!
  3. Revisiting this! I trust we've had time to percolate on scheduling, and with @mc_'s most recent update, it seems things may have had to remain at that Tuesday 9:30AM PST time slot. I will leave this thread open to encourage feedback on this but for the time being it seems like we're not shifting this any time soon.
  4. Hello @J-tt and welcome! Excited to have you here and testing the waters with KAZOO! Were you referring to a direct KAZOO installation guide for your own servers?
  5. Hi @Eric Bramini! Fantastic, love this intro and your insights right off the bat! Very glad to have you and your substantial wealth of wisdom and understanding in this very particular world of ours here in the community, and also thrilled to learn of your early exploration of KAZOO as a platform, it seems you're picking up what we're trying to lay out and that's the dream right there. Are we vibing at 2600Hz right now?! Welcome again and thanks for joining us!

    Hello!

Hi @Seb! Wow thanks for that intro, very glad to have you here! Right, what you've described does represent a pretty serious technical challenge, and it's true that many things in the world of dev are a moving target of sorts. As KAZOO continues to evolve, so too does the knowledge base. I hope that the community here is a resource to you and your team, and that you see the value in contributing back what you've learned along the way in the spirit of a collaborative community! I would first start here with all dev-related subjects: https://forums.2600hz.com/forums/forum/35-developer/ Just as an aside and in no way a plug of any kind, we do happen to have a Professional Services team that exists to extend technical knowledge and customized solutions in many ways, in case you weren't aware, and they can be contacted for more information through our sales team. In any case, we look forward to participating in your journey and seeing what turns up!
  7. Hello @Brian Stone! Thanks for joining us here in the community, and thanks for being the support your clients need with KAZOO. I hope we are a resource to you and by extension them!
  8. Hi all KAZOO Academy learners, I wanted to follow up with everyone on our Bootcamp course and the material in it as it stands now. This is an invitation for open discussion and feedback on what you saw in the course videos, how you felt about the format, if there was anything missing you would like to see added or amended, and just general thoughts on how it helped with you or your organizationation's learning process for the basics of KAZOO management through Monster UI. Additionally, I've just (as of this posting) published an updated Call Center video, this one done through Comm.land, to coincide with the updates happening with the Call Center product and flow, so it seems like an ideal time to check in on course material and what people are getting out of it! So, I eagerly await your input and whatever thoughts you feel like sharing on our Bootcamp course, and thanks as always for being a part of this project!
  9. Hi @SamSip, glad to have you with us!
  10. Hello @Elyat197! Happy to have you amongst us, I'm sure your experience and your desire to learn will blend well with the spirit of these forums, so welcome again and looking forward to seeing which stones you turn over in your journey.
  11. Greetings @sysdrum! Thanks for joining us here in KAZOO-land. What brings you 'round these parts if ya don't mind me askin'?
  12. Hi @Reid Apple, thanks for joining us here in the community forums! We look forward to being a resource for you and we hope that, should you feel so inclined, you hop in and share whatever nuggets of KAZOO wisdom or cleverness you discover along the way!
  13. Hi @Anruag! Just to help move this forward, I'm thinking it would be best if you could possibly elaborate a bit more on what you're looking for here? What kind of chat are we talking about here? Can you explain about some of the components or apps in your KAZOO environment that you're looking to connect or integrate with? What is the end goal for this project? Any other details you can share would be helpful and I'll check back to see what I'm able to do to help get some traction on this for you.
  14. Hello @crebbien and welcome! Very glad to have you here with your development perspective! On the subject of your current task, the first place I personally would look would be the System Administration forums, found here: https://forums.2600hz.com/forums/forum/8-system-administration/ Alternatively, if there is not an existing means to accomplish what you are trying to do, there are of course the developer forums, found here: https://forums.2600hz.com/forums/forum/35-developer/ If you've not already checked those out, I recommend writing up a clear description of your problem or goal and work with folks to see what solutions can be explored. Welcome again and happy posting!
  15. Hi all, here's another throwback from last week, boy am I playing catch-up here or what! This is a good one, once a mystery with much head-scratching at inconclusive call logs, this problem takes us back to our roots and some of the lessons we've learned along the way with configuring KAZOO and getting it to play nice with carriers. What follows is the description and steps taken to resolve it, a configuration error at its core. There once was a client, and they couldn’t make outgoing calls. They wouldn’t get a SIP error in these failures; looking at the logs you wouldn't see any error or any kind actually. Callers were getting an audible error, coming from the carrier evidently. KAZOO didn’t know the call didn’t complete because there was no SIP response indicating such, and KAZOO thought the call completed. When the support team was investigating this, no stone left unturned, a surprising revelation unfolded: it turned out to be Caller ID settings. You have to have a Caller ID number for calls to be handled by the carrier correctly. Older versions of KAZOO didn’t differentiate CIDs and numbers essentially. What was found was that when investigating CID settings on the outgoing number, the actual number was in the CNAME section, and the "CID number" section was blank. Normally, you won’t see it like that, normally it would say “none” or some string the user had input, not a blank field. The completely blank field doesn’t exist as a configuration possibility anymore, this is something that will likely only present with old configurations on old instances of KAZOO. Here are the steps to resolution the team came up with: This applies to situations in which a User has an outbound Caller ID that was set in an older version of Kazoo: You will receive a carrier message along the lines of “Call could not be completed” on the audio channel, yet the logs don’t show the call being rejected. This is because as far as KAZOO is concerned, the handoff to the carrier was completely successfully, and it’s the carrier’s own requirements after that handoff that cause the call to fail. This happens because Kazoo doesn’t know that the audio you’re hearing is a rejection message due to the carrier not sending a SIP response that indicates the call was rejected. To check/fix this: In Advanced Callflows, go to User, select the User in question, and then click the Advanced tab. From here, check the Caller ID tab and look under Outbound Calls. If this was set in an old enough version, you’ll likely see that the Caller ID Name is set to the number you wanted to use, but the Caller ID Number will be totally blank rather than saying “None” Simply change this by selecting the proper Caller ID Number.
  16. Throwback from a prior week! The team had a discussion on the finer points of getting faxing and KAZOO to play nicely together, and it was informative! We'll break this down into the usual main points, but as a preamble, it's appropriate to address the elephant in the room: faxing and VOIP don't usually mix so well in general. This is a known issue, as evidenced by a cursory review of search engine results for "faxing with VOIP", for instance. While our engineers are indeed wizards of their respective crafts, there is no going around some of the challenges of faxing over VOIP connections sadly. What follows is a bit of guidance and best practices as gathered and assessed by the support team on one of their weekly TWIL discussions. As always, please jump in and comment on this with your experiences and any other tips or feedback you may have! Fax and ATA When using a Fax Machine with an ATA, it must be set up in a specific way. If this is not done, you will likely experience issues such as being able to send faxes, but not able to receive them. When creating the device in Kazoo, do not set it up as a fax; the ATA is what is directly connected to the network. Here you have two options: Check first to see if this device is listed as a SIP Phone option. We do have specific ATA models available here and setting it up this way will give you some config options within Kazoo rather than having to use the device’s Web UI. If the device is not listed there, set it up as an ATA in Kazoo. Once you’ve properly added the ATA to Kazoo, then you will want to check your options for specifying T38. This is usually done via the fax’s Web UI, but there are so many variables with the makes/models of devices out there that it may need to be set differently, so you may need to spend some time finding these settings for your specific device. Ultimately though, you will want T38 specified. Test. Test to make sure everything is working as expected. If it is not, there may be additional settings required on the device(s) and this may require some troubleshooting and experimentation. With that you should have a functional ATA setup to handle your faxing, which is what we would recommend and prescribe if available.
  17. I'm feeling a consensus is mounting in favor of Wednesdays at 10AM Pacific time, be it daylight savings time or not, but I'll let this float for a little longer just in case. If in a week we don't have substantial dissent, Wednesdays at 10AM PDT/PST it is then, agreed?
  18. @Skunkbeard SUPER WEIRD you totally revealed something I wasn't aware was the case: checking permissions that I thought I had set to permit appropriate groups to post directly here, I noticed the permission settings were in fact not correct! Fixed thought! Now you can post new TWIL topics in here as you happen upon them, and thanks for pointing that out for me!
  19. Oi @Antonio Taranto, tudo bem?! 😄 Join the 2600Hz Brazil club! Excited to have you onboard, thank you for bringing all of your experience and vision to the community, and we look forward to seeing what you contribute and gain from these forums!

    hi

Welcome @bpaplow and thanks for joining us! KAZOO is fascinating because it's simultaneously what's next AND what's been next for the past 10 years! 😃 What do you get when you combine a legacy like that with the future-looking wizardry we're already building? Just the thing you were looking for. 😉
  22. Hello @MVillars and welcome! Whoaaa I personally am extra excited to have you here among us (not sus), I am fascinated with the whole world of embedded engineering and especially where telecom can be further integrated into that field! I very much hope you will share as much as you are willing to about your journey through exploring KAZOO where your embedded projects are concerned, I am super interested in seeing what you come up with regarding the Raspberry Pi and those types of hardware platforms, and please use these forums as a resource to ask questions in and also share what you learn along the way! As an initial bit of guidance since you asked about what it takes to get a KAZOO instance up and running on a server, I would probably direct you to the System Administration forums, where that kind of information generally lives and is discussed: https://forums.2600hz.com/forums/forum/8-system-administration/ Also, you may find it useful to scope out the developer forums, as that's where the engineering and development stuff you will likely need to engage in with regards to your Pi project takes place: https://forums.2600hz.com/forums/forum/35-developer/ Welcome again and so great to have you here, cheers!
  23. Hello @JoshFerreira and thanks for joining up! We're glad to have you aboard, that is some invaluable knowledge you bring to the table, looking forward to seeing you around the forums!
