    Hi All

Hi @peterd and welcome! We are thrilled you are joining us and bringing all of that fantastic experience with you, looking forward to seeing you around the forums!
  2. Ah that's awesome! So to clarify one of the main ideas behind this subforum, we are actively encouraging users like yourself to also make your own TWIL posts based on information that you've discovered and verified on your own as well, we're crowd sourcing this concept! This is exactly in the spirit the forum, all you need to do is give it its own post and voila, first community contributor to TWIL archives. 😃 Please let me know if I can clarify anything about this further, it's a work in progress as usual and we can always work on explaining things or defining the idea and boundaries better. Thanks @Skunkbeard!
  3. My pleasure! However I wanted to follow up here and ask you about those links you posted in reference to the matter of calls being dropped due to packet loss: is that an active question you have at this time or were you referencing those docs and files as part of some larger discussion possible happening elsewhere on the topic? Or is it that you would like to see that material covered in a future TWIL archive posting? If I could kindly request your elaboration on that I would be happy to work on finding answers or developing some content to post on the matter in upcoming TWIL postings, thanks!
  4. Changing formats a bit here! Today's TWIL post focuses on toll-free numbers (TFNs) and how they work on our platform. Following are some main points about TFNs and how they work with KAZOO and in general across the telecom world. Toll-free numbers are designed to allow callers to pass the cost of the call on to the number owner. As such, they are structurally different from a typical phone number a private or commercial customer would have. Per the FCC, TFNs have the following prefixes, as an example of the differences between them and "regular" phone numbers: 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 and 833. You can read more about what TFNs are directly from the FCC for USA numbers here: https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/what-toll-free-number-and-how-does-it-work 2600Hz works with various carrier partners and are pleased to be able to offer TFNs as a solution for businesses and entities which require their special functionalities and billing. However, being that the flexibility of VoIP and our platform allows for a vast degree of configurability, there are some particularities that must be kept in mind when setting up a toll-free number on KAZOO so that any possible issues that arise from misconfiguration can be avoided. Who can and can't call TFNs? US and Canada callers only, no international calls. International numbers calling in to our toll-free numbers will not work, the carriers will simply not pass it through. Payphones are not able to call TFNs, the call will fail. Calls with improper caller IDs (CIDs) will also fail: If we are unable to identify the Caller ID properly, the call will generally not be allowed. This means the caller ID of someone calling our TFN. However, some toll-free companies may charge a surcharge and deliver the call anyway. Other Toll-Free Numbers: If your Caller ID is set to a toll-free number, you generally will not be able to call another toll-free number. This has a lot to do with what the caller ID is. TFNs are generally not designed to make outgoing calls as well. Sometimes with these the same thing happens with the point above about Caller ID; some end up allowed through and result in extra charges. These are the main points about how TFNs function on our platform. If you observe strange behavior involving a TFN and calls on your account, such as in the case of an improper CID passing through and connecting and resulting in an unusual charge you note, please make sure to check your configurations around caller IDs and your toll-free numbers before opening a support ticket to investigate further.
  5. Hi @Sergey K! Thank you for that suggestion, that is a great idea if you ask me; I'll need to work with the team on this kind of material in particular as it represents the confluence of a few different components and concepts in the platform, including both technical and administrative matters. However, I should also mention that we cover some aspects of billing in some of the bootcamp material as well, thought somewhat topically as it is the introduction to the platform really. If I could ask a favor of you, would you mind elaborating a bit more on what you would like to see covered in such content, either here in a DM or email to me? I would be most appreciative for your guidance and feedback on this potential module! Thanks again for responding!

    Hello

Hello @v1t83! Welcome, and yes as Rick mentioned we can arrange access to our LMS platform for KAZOO Academy, please feel free to DM me here on the forums or contact support for more details on how to do that. Thanks again for signing up here and looking forward to being a part of your learning journey with KAZOO!
  7. Hi learners, I recently sent out an email through the LMS platform requesting your thoughts and feedback on KAZOO Academy and then bootcamp course as it stands now, and while that's percolating I also wanted to open this area up to folks who prefer to make their thoughts a matter of public consumption and discourse! So, please jump in here and share with me and the team what's working and what's not for you, all the while remaining constructive and observing the usual forum rules please. I look forward to continued improvements to the training platform and content and your input is key to that, so anything you say here is much appreciated!
  8. Hello Community, I have been informed that possibly the time at which the community call occurs, 9:30 AM PDT on Tuesdays, isn't as amenable to most as it could be. So, I am opening this thread to ask for folks' opinions on what they think would be a good time to hold the community call as you know it; please post 2-3 of your best available times, I will compile and formulate and triangulate and make a poll to see how people feel about proposed times. Thank you!
  9. Subject: issues with retrieving parked calls; support ticket. Support received complaint about parked calls not being able to be retrieved, "odd behavior". Observation from reporting environment: Devices consistently using port 7000. Support agent noted their testing environment was consistently using port 5060. Through testing with SIP both enabled and disabled, as well as different ports being specified (7000 vs 5060), and specifying different proxy servers for registration, it was determined that none of 2600Hz's zones were experiencing any issues with parking, and that SIP ALG was the suspected problem. Setting protocol to TLS, specifying port 7000, and disabling SIP ALG altogether were identified as workarounds for this issue that was concluded to be local network derived.
  10. Hi all, me again, I wanted to let everyone know that we've taken some feedback we received from @Skunkbeard in the feedback thread (this one here) which received some support, and had a discussion about how best to accomplish what was being suggested there. As a result, I am excited to announce that we are following through with a plan to use our TWIL resource to create posts documenting the solutions to problems and deepened understanding of various topics that arise from working on customer support requests and the team's own research! I've created the subforum as a part of the Tips & Tricks section (here's the link), and am currently working on some initial content for it. Might be getting ahead of myself here but I wanted to capture the momentum and get that rolling and let folks know! Please let me know here or in DM if you have any thoughts or suggestions, and check back in the future for content there as we're able to upload it.
  11. This is a fantastic suggestic suggestion, and it's actually something we've thought about in one capacity or another as part of our ongoing knowledge base efforts! I really like the idea of integrating this into the community and forums, for the opportunity to have the community be able to comment and discuss these kinds of posts and build upon them, a sort of living knowledge base! Thank you for this, I'm going to take this to my team and have a dialogue about it and evaluate what we can do with this suggestion, much appreciated again.
  12. Hi KNERD, thanks for the feedback! I personally am not working on anything engineering-related, as I am the community manager and am the only one working on these forum changes, but I can tell you all the engineering team is hard at work on many things unrelated to these forums. And true enough, the old "if it ain't broke" line of thinking was definitely considered, but we're hoping to trial these changes out for a better long-term outcome in terms of user experience; we do have the ability to revert though if it comes to that! Again, thanks for the input here, anytime someone speaks their mind here is very much appreciated!
  13. Hi all, I wanted to do a quick check-in on the recent forum changes and organization! Leave a vote, and I would super appreciate it if you left your thoughts on why you voted how you did! Thanks, Dan
  14. Hello everyone, I'm back, this time to tell you of some big changes to the look and organization of the forums that we believe will improve the user experience and help with moderation efforts. As we continue our review and evaluation of the forums as the main channel for our community and related discourses, one dimension we have identified as an area for potential improvement is the organization and simplification of the forums based on traffic and average usage. If anyone would like to know more about the thought process motivating this change, please reach out to me and I can elaborate with some data if you're interested to know! This change will be taking place in the near term, and we predict all changes should be complete and sorted by the end of this week. EDIT: To clarify, these changes will focus around moving content from existing top-level forum categories into a smaller number of more generalized forums while maintaining categorization that the consolidated subforums will share. In essence it's a move to consolidate content into fewer main forums organized around theme and traffic. This will likely be disorienting at first! I would like to preemptively apologize for any confusion and difficulty with the new format during that initial adjustment phase, and also express that we make these changes with the intention of improving the overall usage experience of the forums and the community overall. As always, I am happy to receive your thoughts and concerns, so please reach out to me without hesitation about this and any other input you might have on the forums and our community! Thanks all!
  15. Hi @bpbp! This is a great suggestion, excellent point, I will review this idea and likely make that adjustment in the near future. Thank you for the feedback and thoughtful suggestion!
  16. Hi everyone, I wanted to check in with you about some changes we've been discussing and working on for the improvement of our forum and greater community experience. I'll be posting such updates here as we go along, and I wanted to start off with a big one: SPAM. Problem, right? It's uncomfortable and highly processed nonsense when it's here amongst us, and it ruins the concept of sushi in other parts of the world. SO, in an effort to combat said spammification, the following adjustments have been made to the forums: Guests no longer have posting permissions and can only see the Welcome forum here in which we find ourselves, and they can read these posts but not reply (everyone wave and encourage them to register!) New accounts are similarly restricted until they make their first post in the Introductions forum, so we can say hi and welcome and get a feel for their general spamminess or thereabouts These are just a couple actions we're taking, along with continued management of the spam protection systems and moderator vigilance, to combat spam and improve the experience here in the forums. As always, I am very keen to hear your thoughts on this and appreciate your suggestions and input on this matter here, as well as in other areas of the community experience you would like to see action on. My DM's are always open, so drop me a line there if you prefer as well! Thanks all, happy posting!
  17. Hello all, We wanted to create an area where new members could introduce themselves and talk a little bit about who they are what they're looking to get out of participating in our community, so here we have our brand new forum for that express purpose. Going forward, posting your first post here will be a requirement before being able to post to other forums on the site, but I also wanted to extend the invitation to all existing members to jump on in here and post a little intro and get to know each other better if you feel like it! Please keep our forum rules and guidelines in mind when making your intro, which can be found here: Thanks and happy posting!
  18. Hello folks, Good news: forum maintenance and upgrades are planned for May 31st from 8PM to 11PM, Pacific Daylight Time. Bad news: the forums will be unavailable during that time, so plan accordingly and always remember to stay hydrated.
  19. Hello 2600Hz Community! What follows is the announcement of the long-awaited KAZOOcon return to glory! We will be creating subtopics for announcements and handling questions and discussions shortly! Save the Date for KAZOOcon Virtual 2022! Tuesday, May 24th 9am PT/12pm ET We're excited to announce the return of KAZOOcon! While we would love to see all of you in person again, we have decided to try something new and host KAZOOcon virtually this year. We're working on the agenda, and it's already jam-packed full of product announcements, live demos, networking, and more - you won't want to miss it! More details, including a link to register and a giveaway for a limited number of free tickets, will be announced soon, so keep an eye on your email!
  20. Hello all you wonderful people! I'd like to formally introduce myself here, as some of you may already know me from the 2600Hz organization and past exchanges on these forums, but otherwise I've not done a proper salutation yet. I'm the same Dan you may have interacted with via a support ticket in the preceding couple years, and I wanted to let you all know that I have recently shifted into the Community Manager capacity, standing on the shoulders of giants (thanks @Emily R!) and tasked with expanding on the great work that's already been done here. I actually wanted to make this a poll, but found the format for that post type too restrictive (making a note of that for future reference!), so instead I wanted to make this a longer format kind of post. So! One of my main objectives now is obviously to engage in this community and the various channels we use (come say "hi" on Slack sometime!) and get a sense of what you all would like to see more of in these areas. If I could have a moment of your time, please use this thread to post your thoughts and visions for this community, in every sense you can conceive of--from the overall structure to content and representation. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to develop and foster one of the most unique and powerful features of 2600Hz and Kazoo as a product, you! Truly, this is freeform; I am looking for your earnest thoughts and feelings on how we can continue to build on this amazing legacy I am honored to take some part in supporting and fostering. Thanks for reading, thanks for participating, thanks for 'Kazoo'ing and taking the time and everything you do, and I look forward to getting your insights here!
  21. Hi @esoare thanks for bringing this up! We are currently working on training materials, and the basics of Call Center Basic are included in the initial batch of material for the first phase. Once we progress to the next stage of content for the training materials, we will be reviewing more of these requests for more specific trainings. An "agent training manual" is a fantastic suggestion as well, I will definitely be adding this to the list!
  22. Hi everyone! Stopping by to see if folks had had a chance to review the following documentation regarding Caller ID Privacy: https://github.com/2600hz/kazoo/blob/e76940ba8866bf57274b0c15a99350b9c2743460/core/kazoo_endpoint/doc/privacy-cid.md This was discussed at length internally, and while there are some details that may not apply, it was noted that another option for getting this to work was the following: [...]one option is to set caller_id_options.privacy_method to sip on the carrier doc(s). This has only been verified in 5.x so far. I hope this helps, and I'll check back in to see what comes of that!
  23. How do I set multiple phones to a single voicemail box? I want multiple phones to be able to access our single “support” voicemail. Can my same phone have more than 1 mailbox? YES! Here’s how: Open your Provisioner App. (This is slated for access in SmartPBX shortly) Select the Devices tab Select the device you want to update. Go to the Combo Keys tab From the dropdown for Type, select BLF In the Value field, enter *98[voice Mailbox number] as its value. There should be no spaces. Label the key if you want. SAVE! Notes: The key will turn red or blink when there’s a new message. If a voicemail is left in a mailbox other than your own, that mailbox light will blink. This must be toggled on by our support team if you are using Global Infrastructure or Private Cloud.
